Iím doing better. On Friday, my blood counts were excellent. My doctor took out the chest line and said that I didnít need to return to the hospital for a whole week. My first inclination was to head to Terre Haute, but the friars told me that I would surely get too involved and wouldnít get the rest I need.
Today I slept thirteen hours. That is so much more than I am used to sleeping! But Iíve been sleeping much more than normal and even then feel weak and sometimes wobbly. They now have me on a diuretic for some fluid retention and are applying an anticoagulant to a blood clot. The doctor says I should feel stronger once we get a handle those two issues.
Lots of people assume I have cancer. I do not. I have amyloidosis, in which the body produces an abnormal protein called amyloid, which gets deposited into different body organs and obstructs their normal functioning. But I get it: amyloidosis is treated with chemo, which we all associate with cancer.
I am looking forward to spending Thanksgiving with my family in Carey, OH. I will be spending a couple of weeks with the friars, but otherwise I will be at Momís house (414 West Street; Carey, OH 43316) until I return to Terre Haute. I thank you for your kind cards, but even more for your prayers which have been of inestimable help!
