Adult Faith Formation consists of programs for specific events, general Catholic teaching and retreat experiences. Some of the opportunities presented in the parish are:
- Baptismal preparation classes for parents of children receiving the sacrament of Baptism.
- Adult Discussion Group/Bible Study each Sunday between the morning masses during the academic year.
- Small Church Community
- Parish Mission
On the Deanery level, at various city parishes, along with other pastoral leaders, the Pastoral Associate for Adult Faith Formation plans and helps present periodic presentations on the faith and the living out of that faith today. Volunteers are welcome and always needed. |
Baptismal Preparation
Sessions for parents of infants and young children to be baptized are
held quarterly on a Saturday. More experienced parents who are raising
or have raised children in a Christian home are needed to help facilitate
the sessions. The Adult Faith Formation Pastoral Associate will provide
orientation.

Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA)
The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults is a process for adults
who, “after hearing the mystery of Christ proclaimed, consciously and
freely seek the living God and enter the way of faith and conversion
as the Holy Spirit opens their hearts.” Through the gradual process
of prayer, worship, listening, reflection, and study adults are led
into the Roman Catholic tradition for the living out of their Christian
lives. The entire parish community helps support the catechumens and
candidates throughout the process by prayer and worship and in particular
ways as sponsors and team members. The Rite of Christian Initiation
of Adults meets weekly on Wednesdays (alternate weeks during the summer
months).

Sponsors for Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults
It is essential for catechumens and candidates in the Rite of Christian
Initiation of Adults process to each have a sponsor who will be able
to journey with them during their conversion. Attending sessions, enveloping
relationship as a companion, and prayerful support are part of being
a sponsor.
|
Adult Confirmation Team
Catholics who choose not to be confirmed in their high school years,
are afforded the opportunity to engage in and complete the process of
confirmation either through the Campus Ministry program (college students)
or through the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults process. Parishioners
help by being sponsors for these candidates and by their prayerful support.

Indiana Catholic Action Network (ICAN)
The Indiana Catholic Action Network (ICAN) was formed in 1978 by action of the ICC Board of Directors, in recognition of the need for Catholics as citizens, to be involved in shaping legislation, much of which intimately affects the daily lives of people in the state. ICC's involvement in the political arena comes from the belief that life is sacred and that all people have a responsibility to respect the dignity of life and to work for the common good of the entire human family. Each Bishop appoints a Diocesan Coordinator to direct the formation of networks within their diocese. Support coordinators and parish contact persons build and maintain the networks.
I-CAN members can follow the Church's position on each issue and House and Senate activity as it happens. Knowing the Church position and following the legislative process, I-CAN members can contact legislators to voice an opinion. Before a vote on a key issue takes place, 'Action Alerts' are sent through the Network notifying each member to immediately contact their legislators. (Networks are groups of two or more people which respond to Action Alerts.)
